Our guides will take you through the winding washes, up steep hills, and down rugged canyons. The Big Desert Tour gives you more time to explore the grand landscape of the high desert and Pine Nut Mountains. Discover your inner off-road enthusiast as you navigate twisting sand washes, access old mining trails and kick some dust over the mountain passes as you climb to picturesque 360° vantage points. Our adventure guides will provide you with the knowledge to safely operate your machines through various challenges tailored to your party. Supersize your adventure with custom additions such as private groups, on-tour lunches, and photography excursions!

Rubicon ATV  Tours

The Rubicon Trail is one of the most rugged and challenging off-road trails in the United States, perhaps even the world! It lays claims to many tires, axles, and even entire vehicles. It is the great grand-daddy of all 4-wheel trails. Privileged few will ever encounter the grand glacial remnants found in this desolated outback. We offer a variety of Rubicon ATV Tours that pass through some of the most well-known landmarks on the trail. Select from one of the options below to get more information. We Leave From.. Our Rubicon Trailhead is near Tahoma, on the west shore of Lake Tahoe north of Emerald Bay. We start the Rubicon Tours from the far eastern edge of the world famous Rubicon Trail.

Dollar Hole

Our Dollar Hole trip is a popular choice for those seeking a bit of an off-road challenge. This tour lasts approximately 3 hours. After you cross the Pacific Crest Trail, you’ll reach Dollar Hole. Dollar Hole is the first really serious obstacle on the Rubicon Trail. Ride through here and you’ll know you’ve driven an ATV.

Observation Point

– 4 Hours –

Intermediate to Advanced

A half-hour beyond Dollar Hole is Observation Point. You’ll pass a series of short waterfalls over hard, unforgiving Sierra granite worn smooth over thousands of years. At some point you’ll crest a grey granite dome and arrive at your destination. This challenging trip goes deep enough into the Rubicon earning you serious bragging rights. The view from Observation Point is spectacular. As always, wildlife abounds! Keep your eyes peeled and your camera ready at the rest stops.

Rubicon Springs

– 6 Hours –

Advanced

  • Duration: 6 hours
  • $395 single
  • Difficulty:  Advanced

This is our longest and most challenging Rubicon tour. You’ll be on the trail long enough to require a meal, and we include it on this trip! Past Observation Point, you’ll descend the famous Cadillac Hill. From there it’s just a short hop to Rubicon Springs. Once you catch your breath, you get to do it all again in the opposite direction! This tour requires skill, strength, and endurance. After this trip, you’ll know you’ve accomplished an amazing journey!

The guides at Lake Tahoe Adventures are experienced at teaching beginning riders. Once out on the trail they continually assess the ability of the group and tailor the tour to deliver the best experience for everyone.

GUEST REQUIREMENTS

All participants must wear a helmet and eye protection. Drivers must be 18 years of age or older to drive, 25 years of age with minor passengers. Minor passengers must be over 48″, be able to simultaneously grasp the handholds, firmly plant feet on the floor, with back fully against the seat backrest. Rubicon Trail Staging Area

Our Rubicon Trailhead is near Tahoma, on the west shore of Lake Tahoe north of Emerald Bay. We start the Rubicon Tours from the far eastern edge of the world famous Rubicon Trail.

  • From South Shore or the casino area, take Highway 50 West towards the “Y”. Turn right at the “Y” onto Highway 89 North.
  • From the Sacramento area, take Highway 50 to the “Y”, and go straight to get onto Highway 89 North.
  • From North Shore, go to Highway 89 South towards Emerald Bay.

Once on Highway 89, look for the “Rubicon Trail OHV Access” signs after you pass Emerald Bay going north, or before Emerald Bay if you are going south. Or, you can use this map to get directions from your exact location.

Our ATV tours in the Pine Nut Mountains explore a spectacularly rugged and unforgiving landscape that’s surprisingly close to Lake Tahoe and Reno. We head out into the pinion pine, sagebrush, and juniper country on the east side of the beautiful Carson Valley. You’ll ride desert washes, climb rocky hills, and cruise across sagebrush flats that are home to bands of wild horses.
